David Pauley traded to Baltimore.

I was torn between hoping he'd be back in Pawtucket and hoping he'd get a shot at the majors somewhere else. All best to you, Dave.

I started to be fascinated with David when he started a game in Yankee Stadium the year before last and held his own for some 4 or perhaps 5 innings. He wasn't great. He wasn't completely terrible. But he did look scared shitless. Ever since then I've always wished him well and hoped he would make it to the Bigs. (Of course, there's also that lapping thing....)

In the game against the Yankees he was actually pretty darn good! ^_~ He essentially got the start so the Sox didn't have to toss Jon Lester to the wolves in the Bronx for his debut. Nearly got himself out of the seventh inning but for his own misplay of a ball that loaded the bases. He and the Sox lost the game 2-1, but it was a heck of a performance.

Of course you're right that he looked nervous--as he did when they knocked him around a bit in Toronto the week before that. I wish I could remember which game it was where he had the bases loaded, one out, and the batter hit a dribbler toward the mound--the play was at home but he fielded it, whirled and flung it into center field. Or he would have, except that somehow Alex Gonzalez levitated, caught it, landed on second and threw to first for the DP.

I remember that. An amazing play by Gonzo, and one of my lasting memories of him.

I'll miss Dave, but he should have a good shot at cracking the Orioles' starting rotation. I'll be rooting for him.

I remember that game I was thrilled to see him do so well at that point. I'm going to miss him :(

I'm very sad. I hope the Orioles put him to good use.

The breaking up of Zink and Pauley is just another reason this bums me out.

You took the best pictures anyone has taken of him.

Thanks. ^_^ I suppose I may actually see more of him if he makes Baltimore's rotation, huh?

my favorite pauley memory is from the pawsox fanfest autograph time late in 2007 - he got assigned the table with miss massachusetts (!!!) and was ridiculously adorable while chatting with her in that amicable/flirty way while signing. she seemed entirely charmed (as was i, of course). it was pretty awesome.

fingers crossed we'll have another familiar face to look for at camden yards.

Hello dear! Quick question since I figure you'll be the best to know (and I can't find it online at ALL)

You went to Truck Day last year, right? Any chance you know what time the trucks leave? I'm taking the T in and rather than sit around all morning/afternoon I'd love to somewhat know. Any info would be lovely! Thanks a bunch!!! :)

I've gone for a couple of years now! ^_^

Later in the week there will be a press release confirming the time and details. I did scrounge word that the truck with Wally and the Fenway ambassadors is expected back at Fenway around 3:30pm, after escorting the equipment truck out, so my bet is that it leaves around 1:00pm. Last year it left on Saturday morning, but I think the last time it left on a weekday it was early afternoon.

1:00pm departure per the Sox press release.

The Boston Red Sox equipment truck will depart for the 1,480-mile trip to the club's Spring Training home in Fort Myers, Florida on Friday, February 6 at approximately 1:00 p.m. New for this year, a box of emails containing well-wishes from fans in Red Sox Nation will also be loaded on the equipment truck. This box will be placed in the equipment truck by official Citizens of Red Sox Nation and is intended to bring the Red Sox good luck for the 2009 season.

The equipment truck, which will depart from Fenway Park on Yawkey Way - adjacent to Gate D, will be led in procession by a flat-bed truck carrying Wally the Green Monster, Fenway Ambassadors, and official Citizens of Red Sox Nation.

All media outlets are welcome to cover the departure of the equipment truck.
